Selinah Winnie Mashaba, popularly known as Dr. Winnie Mashaba, is a celebrated South African gospel musician, television presenter, and entrepreneur who has become an iconic figure in the Southern African music landscape. Born in 1981 in the village of Ga-Phasha, Steelpoort, her journey began in the humble surroundings of Limpopo, where she would stand on flat stones and use sticks as makeshift microphones.
Driven by a profound passion for gospel, she made the bold decision to leave school in 1998 after Grade 11. Her breakthrough came shortly after when her mother introduced her to the legendary Solly Moholo. This meeting led to her 2000 debut album, "Exodus 20," which sold over 25,000 copies and launched a career that now spans more than 15 albums.
Dr. Mashaba’s contributions have been recognized with numerous accolades, including the Crown Gospel Award for Best Female Artist and a Kora Africa Music Award nomination. In 2019, she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy in Sacred Music from Trinity International Bible University (TIBU). Beyond her music, she is a familiar face on television, hosting the sacred music show Amahubo on Dumisa TV since 2015.
As a businesswoman, she founded Tswako Music & Projects and launched a successful insurance agency. Dedicated to lifelong learning, she returned to school 12 years after dropping out to complete her matric and later earned a Diploma in Event Management from the University of Pretoria to inspire the youth. Today, she remains a pillar of her community through The Dr. Winnie Mashaba Foundation, advocating against gender-based violence and supporting orphanages and correctional centers.
